Traditional Publishing

Traditional publishing. It still has a place in the future, I really believe that. But as we all know, the whole world of publishing is changing. Self publishing is picking up steam, and the indie author may finally one day see him or herself on a more or less even playing field with the more traditionally published authors.
There’s a lot to say for the publisher, though I see the day soon where the small presses are pretty much extinct,  leaving only the Big Five, who will one day be the Big Four, then Three, and so on.
In fact, of all the changes coming, that’s what scares me the most. Fewer publishers ultimately means fewer opportunities for new authors, as there will be fewer agents, editors, etc…
Maybe, hopefully, I’m just being alarmist. There’s a good article

on traditional publishing and what you should look for when starting out.
